Slumming It...

December 8, 2008

The weather was so cold this week that I only took the kids out once. We have spent a lot of time these past few weeks running around town with our friend Sophia (and her Mommy Shelley), which is part of the reason why Mommy has been so bad about blogging.

I really enjoyed getting to slow thing down this week and really get to spend some alone time with the little ones. It is hard to imagine that just 2 ½ months ago, it was just Marshall and I alone at the house getting ready for Marshall’s new baby sister. He was our little baby and he just had to grow up overnight. But he doesn’t seem to miss being babied. Marshall-man is constantly on the move. Up and Down the stairs with the greatest of ease. Playing with one toy after another. He still cracks me up though. He is very inquisitive and chatty. But he has this uncanny ability to understand how things work. Maybe he will be an engineer?

When we want him to take a nap during the day I still have to put him into the swing. He happily will go in there and I will hand him his bottle and he will fall right to sleep. What is funny about him is that I am not a huge “Routine” sort of person with a rigid schedule for him, but he seems to have implemented this routine on his own. He likes it so I have started to give it to him. Sadly, this routine has always involved fighting bedtime in the evenings (so opposite of his nap time where he happily goes right to sleep in his swing). For the past 5 months Chris and I have had to use the swing to put him to bed (there is a lot of LOUD ANGRY crying involved in bedtime that is so exhausting for Chris and I). But something happened this week to change this routine…we ran out of batteries!

So Chris and I put him into the crib and after 15 minutes of crying he fell asleep. Chris and I watched on the baby monitor with amazement. He was asleep!! And Chloe was asleep! Holy Moley what do we do with ourselves?!!! We get to watch TV? Play on the computer?! HORRAY HORRAY!! – Nope it was short lived… Chloe woke up.

The next night Marshall fussed for 1 minute then fell right to sleep! The night after that and going forward, no crying at all! He curls up on his little pillow with his bottom in the air and fell right to sleep! We probably should have done this a long time ago, but hey you live, you learn. Now we know better for the next child.

Did I also mention what an AWESOME big brother he is to his sister? I never see any jealousy out of him. When he sees her there is nothing but love for her. He will sometimes be busy and see her watching him and will drop everything he is doing and run over to her and say "AWWWWW" then gives her a hug or lays his head in her lap. Then he gets up and runs off to play with something else. It is so adorable! It melts this Momma's heart.
